The original Rocky movie came out in 1976 and starred Sylvestor Stallone who also wrote the screenplay. It was created for under $1 million and turned into a sleeper hit with worldwide revenues of about $225 million.

The movie became the highest grossing movie of 1976. That season it won 3 Oscars including one for Best Picture. In addition, it received critical praise in the media and launched Stallone to a significant star.
