Many of us have loved the Rocky Movies. These motivational movies starring Sylvestor Stallone tell the story about an underdog who ultimately makes it to the top. Here’s a brief history of these movies.

It was produced for under $1 million and became a sleeper hit with worldwide revenues of about $225 million.

The movie became the top grossing movie of 1976. It also received critical praise in the press and launched Stallone to a significant celebrity.

The original Rocky movie tells the story of Rocky Balboa who is an but sort hearted debt collector for a Philadelphia loan shark. During a stroke of luck, Rocky discovered himself having a shot in the world heavyweight championships when the scheduled rival struck his hands.

The movie’s cast also includes Talia Shire as Adrian, Burt Young as Adrian’s brother along with Rocky’s buddy Paulie, Burgess Meredith as Rocky’s coach Mickey Goldmill, and finally Carl Weathers because the current champion Apollo Creed.

It is not generally known but on account of the low budget of this film, a variety of Stallone’s loved ones played small roles. Stallone’s dad played the person who rung the bell to indicate the beginning and finish of a round; his brother Frank played a road corner fighter, along with his original wife Sasha functioned as the group photographer.

If this project was given to the studios, they all liked the concept but seen it as a good car for a recognized male celebrity like Robert Redford, Ryan O’Neil, of James Caan. Stallone appealed to the studios to be given the chance to star in this movie. He was quoted afterwards as having felt he would have never forgiven himself in case the movie became a success in the starring role.

Determining who to perform the part of Adrian has been a bit challenging. Initially the role was put with Carrie Snodgress but a money dispute shifted this. Susan Sarandon was auditioned but she was deemed too pretty for its position. Following Talia Shire read to your job, she was quickly signed and the rest is history.

The initial movie went to spur five sequels over the subsequent thirty years such as Rocky II, III, IV, V, and Rocky Balboa. To this day the original movie remains a fantastic reputation as a classic. In 2006, Rocky has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being”culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
